Simon Goh, a partner in Rajah & Tann LLP's Insurance & Reinsurance Practice Group, acted for Great Eastern Life Assurance Co Ltd and its subsidiary, the Overseas Assurance Corporation Limited ("OAC"), in drafting a new medical insurance policy that was jointly launched by Parkway Holdings Ltd on 21 January 2010 at a press conference. The new and innovative insurance product by OAC, a first of its kind in the Singapore market, provides insurance coverage for post-surgery complications for patients of Mount Elizabeth, Gleneagles or East Shore hospitals. Any patient between the age of one month to 85 years old are eligible to purchase this new insurance and individual underwriting is waived, meaning OAC will not look at the patient's age, sex or health history when deciding whether to cover the patient and when calculating how much premium is payable. Coverage starts from the moment a surgery at any of the three Parkway hospitals is completed and ends 24 hours after the patient is discharged.
